Potential overrun of the budget for reimbursement

The NFZ has published a statement regarding the costs of the total budget for reimbursement from January to May 2018. The percentage of implementation of the total budget for reimbursement was 40.37% * – therefore it is lower than the percentage that would result from the proportional distribution of expenses during the year (41.67% *).

At the same time, the total reimbursement expenses for pharmacy reimbursement are higher (42.12% **) than the planned expenses, assuming a proportional distribution of expenses during the year (41.67% **), which – in the case of maintaining the trend in the following months – could involve the launch of a pay-back mechanism (but this is not possible due to legal reasons).

The dynamics of spending in the last three months, however, indicate that the risk of exceeding the budget for pharmacy sales is decreasing – May was the second consecutive month in which there was a decrease in expenditure on pharmacy reimbursement in relation to the previous month.

The interest refers to the planned total budget for reimbursement for 2018 in the field of reimbursement of medicines, foodstuffs for particular nutritional uses and medical devices available on prescription at the pharmacy.
